Quiz on Plath

The Bell Jar centers around a young girl recalling her worries and interests.  The story takes place during the Cold War, around the time Julius and Ethel Rosenburg were executed.  Over the course of the story, the reader is brought into the mind of Esther Greenswood.  It is not revealed until the end of the story that Esther Greenswood has been in an insane asylum the whole time.

I read a story on Storycorps about a couple that was been together for 60 years.  The couple surprisingly met on a blind date only 6 months after World War II ended.  The couple remembers going to the movies and being very shy in front of each other.  After two years of dating, they eventually got married and started a family.  The wedding anniversary will be held on December 25th to commemorate 60 years of marriage.

Week Four
The French President is prone to destroying t
exting in France.  However, there is one problem.  He is an avid texter himself!  French officials have been blaming texting for destroying their language since texting calls for a person to shorten larger words or phrases, such as "lol" in english.  Texting is not destroying english as it is french though.

Project Three Reflect/Action

For Project Three, I have already done a number of tasks for my presentation.  I have done the volunteer work for my presentation.  I spent more than three hours of my time with ELS students and having fun with them.  This was the fun part of my project.  I have not been able to find an interview yet but I will probably do so this weekend.  I my start on Friday to ensure someone from the ELS staff will be there to answer my questions.  I am trying to figure out a good way to present the project to the campus.  I think I will use a trifold and have my macbook playing video clips and the interview.  I have collected various pictures from my friends on the different ventures I have undergone with ELS students.  I must still collect the supplies for the final presentation.  I may even bring food to persuade people to stop by my booth.

The steps I have taken to complete my project are going to help me with the fun part of my project.  The pictures will give people a fun sense when they look at my project.  I must complete the hard part and complete the interview.

Annotated Bibliography

Vogler, Christopher. The Writer’s Journey: Mythic Structure for Writers. Studio

City:Michael Wiese Productions, 2007.

Summary

In the final chapters of the Writer’s Journey, called the Writer’s Journey and Staying Alive, Vogler gives his own work fairy tale sense.  In The Writer’s Journey chapter, he gives the writer a place in a story.  He compares the journey of the fictional characters to the world of a writer.  He believes that the Writer’s Journey and the archetypes journey are one in the same.  Both journeys must confront ordeals to reach a goal an audience.  The character of the shaman is compared directly to the writer of a story in particular.  Just like a writer, a shaman is not connected to the world around his or her and must overcome demons and evil powers to reach their goal.

The next chapter is called Staying Alive.  In this chapter, he talks about his past as a film writer and some of the highlighting moments where he learned an important lesson.  A few of these lessons are “a good story has two journeys, an inner and outer” or “ stories are metaphors.”    The most important lesson that is conveyed in this chapter is the idea that stories are made to reach human emotion.  For example, the story of Rumpulstelskin is a story told in many languages but it reaches so many people despite having a different name.

Questions

1.     What was his final goal in the writer’s journey?

2.     Are timeless stories or classics still being written today?

Reaction

I feel in the remaining pages, Vogler is trying to give words of encouragement for all writers.  Despite any setbacks a person may have, he wants to be a mentor for any writer who struggles.  He sets a goal for all writers to reach an audience through their emotions.  It is almost as if he is giving a speech to a timeless story.
